Since the 1970's the democratic societies around the world have experienced an
increased need to access information. Entering the 21st century, the development
continues to expand through technological progress and globalisation. However,
does equal access to information really exist throughout the world?

The BOBCATSSS 2000 Symposium focuses on the opportunities and limitations
of intellectual property versus the right to knowledge in a number of ways. We
invite you to contribute papers on the subject, addressing one or more of the
following topics:

* Accessibility
   - The right to knowledge
   - Information literacy
   - Educating the information specialist

* Legal and political aspects
   - Intellectual property and copyright issues
   - Information policy

* Technology
   - Library services
   - Archiving
   - Globalisation

please either fill out and mail the pre-registration form or use our online registration

Preregistration:                      As soon as possible
Submission of Abstracts:       September 15, 1999
Notification of acceptance:    Mid October, 1999
Submission of Papers:           January 10, 2000
Symposium:                           January 24-26, 2000

The BOBCATSSS Symposium is a unique event. It is arranged by students
and attended by information professionals, library and information science
lecturers as well as students.

BOBCATSSS is an association of several European Institutes of Education
in Information Science. The name is an acronym for the cities in which the
original founders are situated (Budapest, Oslo, Barcelona, Copenhagen,
Amsterdam, Tampere, Sheffield, Stuttgart and Szombathely). Since the
signing of the Letter of Intent, the schools of Kharkiv, Moscow, Sofia,
Tallinn, Bratislava and Darmstadt have joined the BOBCATSSS association.
The BOBCATSSS Symposium is held under the auspices of EUCLID.
